Our Route

Our Route

This is the route we will be taking.  I searched the internet to find good routes to drive for leaf "peeping", and this is the route I came up with (almost 800 miles and 16 1/2 hours of driving - lots of driving, but when you want to drive around and see the fall colors, this is what you do!!).  Enroute, we would like to stop by the Trapp Lodge in Stowe, the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream facory in Waterbury, VT, see a few covered bridges, Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, ME, and a couple of lighthouses.  Looks like it should be a good week in terms of the colors.  These routes look like they are medium to peak color.  We got a van to travel in - so we should be able to see the beautiful foliage better.

Getting Ready

We are leaving on our trip on Monday, October 4th, flying out of Minneapolis/St. Paul.  Jan's husband, Mick will also be going!  We will fly to Manchester, NH.  From there, we will make our way up to Stowe, VT.  We will spend a day there, and then head east to Bar Harbor, Maine.  We will spend a day there, and then head on to Portland, Maine, and back to Manchester to fly home.  We have found many recommended places to see - and undoubtedly do not have enough time, but we will see what we can.  We also have to allow time to see the Minnesota Twins play baseball several evenings while we are on our trip as the playoff series will be starting (and Mildred is a HUGE Twins fan).  Mildred wants to eat apple pie in Vermont - and see the Trapp Family lodge.  Mildred likes to keep a diary when she is on a trip - this is a wonderful way to do so - and to share our adventures with friends!!
